There's more to Norfolk Island There's more to Norfolk Island

If you’re curious about Norfolk Island’s past, this is the place to start digging. The Royal Engineers Office – or REO for short – is also referred to as the Kingston Information Centre and is set within a heritage building dating back to Norfolk’s days as a hellish penal colony.

Here, you can buy tickets for entry to the Norfolk Island Museums located within the Kingston UNESCO World Heritage Site, grab a drink and pore over the books and souvenirs for sale. The shelves are stocked with riveting reads filled with blow-by-blow accounts of Norfolk stories and lore, as well as up-to-date advice on what hidden discoveries await visitors to our island.

Top tips for the Royal Engineers Office

  • From the REO, head up Rooty Hill Road to Queen Elizabeth Lookout for views across to Phillip and Nepean islands. It’s a short drive up to the lookout but if you are thinking of walking there, note it’s a steep and long trek!
  • A Norfolk Island Museums Pass is handy to have if you want to join tag-along tours that leave from the REO.
