The Kingston and Arthur’s Vale Historical Area was awarded World Heritage status in 2010. This afternoon you will visit the site and learn about the 2 British Settlements on the Island. You will hear of the hardships faced by the convicts and their guards, when arriving on an uninhabited Island in 1788, just 6 weeks after Australia was settled. Hear how they survived and why the settlement was abandoned a mere 26 years later. You will walk in the footsteps of the convicts and military during the second settlement and understand why they called it “Hell on Earth”.
