Pitcairn Settlers Story

From Bounty mutineers to proud Norfolk Islanders…

Charles and Kim Christian-Bailey, the owners of a remarkable 13 acre homestead welcome you to their family’s home. First settled by Charles’ great-great grandparents Emily Christian and George Bailey, the property’s unique features become the backdrop to stories of the Pitcairn Islanders settlement on Norfolk Island. Only accessible on these tours, you’ll see stunning established gardens, historic buildings, and original artefacts.

Highlights include:

  • Touring the gracious 1877 homestead, preserved with original character, furnishings and charm
  • Visiting George Bailey’s blacksmith forge – the oldest working forge in the Pacific still operating with original double bellows
  • Riding aboard the island’s first-ever tour bus: a lovingly restored 1928 Model A truck
  • Discovering Norfolk’s historic industries, including whaling, passionfruit, lemon and banana growing. Displays include an original timber lighter and a whaleboat, both locally built.
  • Wandering established gardens filled with fruit and vegetable trees and ornamental plantings – some of the oldest on the island

The experience concludes with a short film and a warm invitation to enjoy tea, coffee, and the family’s famous guava porpeih jelly served on a biscuit – a sweet finish to an unforgettable journey.
