A Visitor Experience
This unique tour of Norfolk's historic areas includes 150-year-old stone
quarries, grain mills, land once farmed by convicts and from 1856 by a
peaceful and pious community. Tools and hardware are used in a museum
setting to demonstrate past methods of building, farming and basic
survival.
The first part of the tour is historic Kingston's salt houses, windmill,
crank mill and buildings showing the workmanship of master craftsmen. As
you travel across the island to a charcoal burner's pit and the museum,
you will see many remnants of a bygone era visitor's also have the
opportunity to try shingle-making, stone-cutting, timber-working and
corn-grinding. The tour, which finishes at an island home where
refreshments are served, takes approximately 3 hours and retails for
$35.00 per person.
History in the Making has been put together by Arthur Evans a Norfolk
Islander who has worked in developing museum public programs,
interpretation of historic sites, historic research and delivering
enlightening sessions on his own family history, of the Bounty, Pitcairn
Island and Norfolk Island.
